Who We Are
Dr. Kristina Johnson, Psy.D.
Relationships are where we grow.

As a psychologist, I've always been drawn to the powerful ways that love teaches us to soften and stretch. I've dedicated much of my training to helping clients find authenticity in their romantic relationships.
In my couples therapy practice Heart Medicine, PLLC, I weave the strengths of Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Relational Life Therapy to help partners not only connect more honestly and fully to one another, but also to themselves.

I support couples on two levels. At the Practical level, I teach skills for speaking up to each other with love, finding greater tenderness, and coming back into alignment after a conflict. On the Big Picture level, I aim to help clients gain clarity into what they long for, what they fear, and how they can grow as a person, not just as a partner.
I meet with couples online and in-person in Missoula, Montana for both weekly sessions and intensives.

I hold a doctorate in clinical psychology from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California. You can find out more about me and how we can work together on my website. Or click the button to the right to book a consultation.

Couples therapy is not for the faint of heart.
As both a practitioner and a client in couples work, I hold deep respect for how vulnerable—and at times ruthless—relational work can be. Like most things that matter, if we can learn to tolerate the discomfort, there's often a gift waiting on the other side.

It's a true privilege to walk alongside couples who feel stuck, helping them find their way back to authentic connection.

I aim to bring curiosity, depth, and calm to my work with couples.
In each session, I strive to hold a balance between depth and lightness. Will I interrupt you? Teach you how to fight well? Challenge your beliefs? Yes. And every bit of it is in service of your future relationship.

I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment Theory, Perinatal Psychology, and Somatics to help partners uncover the next, best version of themselves—and of their relationship.
